Grammar: N(이)나, -거나
N(이)나: Choosing Between Nouns
N(이)나 is attached to a noun and used to indicate a choice between two or more options.
Use 이나 after a noun ending in a consonant and 나 after a noun ending in a vowel.
-거나: Choosing Between Actions or States
-거나 is attached to verb or adjective stems to indicate a choice between two or more actions or states.
It can also attach to the stem of 이다 (to be).
Example Sentences
세수하고 나서 얼굴에 로션이나 크림을 발라요.
After washing my face, I apply lotion or cream.
저한테 전화하거나 메시지를 보내 주세요.
Please call me or send me a message.
The first sentence uses N(이)나 to choose between two products. The second uses -거나 to choose between two actions.
